One of the Commissioning Committee’s goals is to endow three scholarships--one each for the Blue and Gold Crews or their dependents--and one for students from the District of Columbia, our Namesake. Scholarships will be administered by the Dolphin Scholarship Foundation and awarded annually.
Given serving as the Commanding Officer (CO) of a ballistic missile submarine is one of the most difficult jobs in the Navy, another Committee goal is to fund an Executive Coach for every Blue and Gold Crew CO assigned to SSBN-826 throughout her 42-year service life. Intent is to help the CO excel while leading 154 men and women serving in defense of our nation.
We seek your financial assistance to achieve these goals.
The Navy League, through our Commissioning Committees, prioritizes enhancing the lives of the men and women “standing constant watch far beneath the waves” by providing quality of life enhancements not covered by the U.S. Navy and taxpayer dollars.
Given the USS District of Columbia will operate at sea approximately 70% of the time, our goal is to enrich and improve the quality of life for USS District of Columbia Sailors on patrol by providing enhancements to the Boat.
Enhancements range from expanding the Boat’s library to upgrading exercise equipment to providing mementos from the District to instill Crew pride in their Namesake.
Donations from private individuals and companies make these enhancements possible.
